Heartworm Season Is Here!

Top 5 Things You Need to Know to Protect Your Pet from this Deadly Disease...

1.      Heartworms are transmitted from animal to animal by mosquitoes so animals in our region are at high-risk for this disease.

2.     Heartworms are worms that live in the heart and lungs of an infected animal.  Heartworm disease is serious and can be fatal if not treated.

3.  Symptoms of heartworm disease include coughing, fatigue, vomiting, labored breathing and weight loss; however some animals show no symptoms at all.

4.   Heartworm Disease is preventable!  Your vet can help you protect your pet by giving you a prescription for an inexpensive, chewable tablet each month.  It's as simple as that.

5.   Heartworm is treatable.  After confirming that heartworm disease is present, your vet will next determine the severity of the disease.  Normally a series of injections are required and possibly hospitalization.  After treatment is completed, the animal is restricted from exercising for several weeks.
